The Short Version
We're climbers, not data brokers. We collect the minimum data needed to run this site, we don't sell it to anyone, and we don't do creepy tracking. That's it.
If you want the longer version, keep reading. But honestly? The short version covers 90% of it.
What We Collect
If You Create an Account
- Email address - So we can send you password resets and important updates (not spam, we promise)
- Username - Your chosen dirtbag identity
- Password - Stored encrypted, obviously. We can't see it and neither can anyone else
If You Submit Content
- Crag submissions - The info you provide about crags (this is public, that's the point)
- Reviews and comments - Also public, tied to your username
- Photos - If you upload them, they become part of the crag listing
Automatically Collected
- Basic analytics - Page views, general location (country level), device type. We use this to know if the site is working and what features people actually use
- Cookies - Only for keeping you logged in. That's literally it. No tracking cookies, no ad cookies, no creepy stuff
What We DON'T Do
- Sell your data to anyone. Ever. Not advertisers, not data brokers, not anyone
- Track you across the web
- Build advertising profiles
- Share your email with third parties
- Use your location for anything other than showing you nearby crags (and only when you explicitly allow it)
Location Data
When you use the "Near Me" feature, your browser might ask for location access. This is:
- 100% optional - the site works fine without it
- Only used in the moment to find nearby crags
- Not stored on our servers
- Not shared with anyone
If you're paranoid (respect), just search for your region manually. No judgment.
Cookies
We use cookies for exactly one thing: keeping you logged in. That's a "session cookie." When you close your browser or log out, it goes away.
We don't use:
- Advertising cookies
- Third-party tracking cookies
- Analytics cookies that follow you around
If you block all cookies, you just won't be able to stay logged in. The site will still work for browsing.
Third-Party Services
If you sign up using Google or Discord, those services have their own privacy policies. We only receive basic profile info (email, username) - we don't get your passwords or access to your accounts.
Data Security
We use industry-standard security practices:
- HTTPS everywhere
- Encrypted passwords (bcrypt)
- Regular security updates
- Limited access to data (only what's needed)
That said, no system is 100% secure. Don't use your banking password here (or anywhere else that isn't your bank).
Your Rights
You can:
- Access your data - Ask us what we have on you
- Delete your account - We'll remove your personal data. Public contributions (crag submissions, reviews) may remain but will be anonymized
- Export your data - Get a copy of everything you've contributed
- Correct errors - Let us know if something's wrong
Just contact us and we'll sort it out. No forms to fill, no hoops to jump through.
Kids
This site isn't designed for kids under 13. If you're a parent and your kid has somehow created an account, let us know and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we'll let you know. We're not going to suddenly start selling data or tracking you without notice. That would be a dick move.
Questions?
If anything here is unclear or you have concerns, get in touch. We're real people and we'll give you a real answer.
